Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 - Read Complete Review on Sony Phones

Introduction:

The Xperia X10 is yet another flagship smart-phone from the table of Sony Ericsson. With Google's OS growing in popularity, the phone has been packed with Android operating system with a high speed processor. It is the most popular unit in the widely sought after Sony Xperia Series with bundle of mind-blowing features and applications. High end software offers rich user experience, while the sturdy hardware features speak volumes about its durability and performance.

Design & Build Quality:

The X10 looks to have combined all the winning attributes of a high-end Android gadget. Its expansive 4-inch capacitive touchscreen with a high 480 x 854 pixel resolution, 8 megapixels camera and advanced Android operating system are the key attractions making it the most salable device in market. The handset is beautifully crafted by an expert team of Sony Ericsson engineers and looks gorgeous with nice finish and superb design. Though slightly heavy with 135 grams and the dimensions of 119 x 63 x 13mm, yet it sound perfect when in your palms. It is a pocket-sized smart-phone having something for every type of user. After all, the handset feels a good competitor to other giant pieces of technology like the HTC Desire , Acer Liquid and the HTC Evo.

The build quality is just awesome. The use of plastics sets it apart from other device. However, I like its back which is nicely designed with a matte black tactile back, keeping it free from fingerprints. It feels very good to hold with curved edges on the rear. Across the top, it has a standby/power button, a 3.5mm headphone jack and a Micro-USB connection. Below the display, you will find three controls buttons designed for better functioning of the device.

Software, Storage & Social Networking:

It is very big in terms of performance and storage. Inside the phone, there is powerful 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, while it runs on latest Android OS, v1.6 (Donut) which is upgradable to v2.1. The internal memory is 1GB, but don't worry, a microSD card has been provided to extend the memory further from 8GB to maximum 32GB.

Just like HTC EVO, it is a powerful camera phone having all desirable connectivity options like 3G, Wi-Fi Bluetooth 2.0+EDR and GPS which make it a more competitive offering.

Like the Motorola Quench, the Xperia X10 is a heavily customized product from the house of Sony Ericsson in terms of camera interface, keyboard changes and browsing capability. Two cutting edge applications including Timescape and Mediascape will for sure give it an extra edge over other smart-phones selling in the current market today. They are meant to bring the whole digital world before users. There are even Gmail, Google search, Facebook and Twitter applications available on this brand new gadget. Wit this unit, you can keep in touch with the whole world with simple clicks on its super touchscreen that reacts with even slightest touch.

Multimedia & Imaging:

The Mediascape™ is yet another important feature that make it distinct from other counterparts. It allows users to collect or store their all media data like music, photos ad videos in just one place. With Mediascape™, you will be able to access media from the phones memory, YouTube and even PlayNow™. Apart from all this, the stunning smart-phone offers both audio-video players enabling you to enjoy your favorite songs and videos with ease. This is not all, it also supports ring-tones which you can set as caller tunes and entertain your callers. What will amaze you the most is its 8.1 mega pixels camera offering high quality images. The camera comes with an automatic focus, sixteen times digital zoom, a touch control focus , smile detection, face recognition and LED flash-all meant for enhancing the picture quality. Geo-tagging feature helps users to tag photos with a particular geographic location where they have been captured. Finally, you can also play mind-blowing video games using this mobile phone.

Web Browsing & Messaging:

The browser is pretty much advanced, but has no Flash support and even no multitouch support like you see on many modern HTC phones. Still, it make it easy for browsing internet at a faster pace. So far messaging, the handset has been equipped with all desirable messaging options. You will find MMS feature which helps you share video as well as non-video content with your friends, family and other near and dear ones. There is an instant messaging option as well which allows users to interact with people while they are live online. For your emailing requirements, the handset carries Email and Push email features.

Battery Life:

One of the most sought features on any smart-phone in the world is of course battery life. The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 contract deals comes with Li-Po 1500 mAh (BST-41) battery that sounds very useful with standby time upto 415 hours on 2G while upto 425 hours on 3G. And while the talk-time offered by the battery include upto 10 hours on 2G and 8 hours on 3G. Sure, a phone like this needs a regular connection to stay in touch with everything.

Some Disadvantages:
  • No DivX and XviD video playback
  • No smart dialing option
  • No secondary camera for video-call camera
  • No Flash support for its web browser
  • No FM radio
  • Could have been equipped with xenon flash to make it a perfect camera device
Final Verdict:
The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 after all looks like ill-fated one. We found its Wi-Fi connection just limited in locations where other phones have no problems. Many feel that it does not speak well for the X10 mini and X10 mini pro. However, the concept of Timescape and Mediascape is good enough. Some minor drawbacks, I don't feel, are deal breakers and most of people can live with these weaknesses. Sony Ericsson has done enough to make sure that this offering is on par with other Android rivals
